Platanos is a small traditional village in a central position on the road from Gaios to Loggos, in the middele of endless olivegroves. Symbol of the village is the huge plane tree which has given it the recent name Platanos. Surprisingly it is the only Paxiot village with a "tree of idleness" very rare, as these trees are very common in almost every Corfiot village. Social life concentrates on the village square with its church, the kafeneion, the former school and a general shop. The 15th century Estavromenos church is worth visiting for its frescoes. At the end of the village is an olive press where you may still see the olives being processed.. Platanos has tweo tavernas, a kafenion and a bakery. Nearby Magazia offers anoher bakery and minimarket.Platanos is also know by its "old name" Fontana.
From Platanos a half an hour downhil stroll brings you to the Kiki Lagada beach. It is well situated for exploring the island lovely walks go through endless olive groves and along the typical walled tracks.
